1) When making an online car hire booking, make sure to read the terms and conditions carefully. Things can sometimes go wrong on holiday. For instance

What happens if you don’t show up on the day your rental starts?
Will the car be held for you?
Will you incur a financial penalty?

2) Lots of companies will charge for additional extras that you may not be fully aware of.

How many additional drivers do you require? Baby seat?  Have you checked for possible age limits?

3) Is there an extra charge for crossing the border of a country?  Can you drop off you car hire in a different country if you wish? Is there an extra charge?

4) Be sure to let the car hire company know your flight number in advance. Airport car hire staff will be aware of any flight delays.

5) The majority of car hire companies are upfront about all costs associated with your rental. Yield management is something which must be considered. This means that a quote you got yesterday may not be available today. The amount of available cars can change rapidly especially in peak season.

6) With the current high price of fuel it is worth carefully considering any prepaid fuel offers. You should have a good idea of the fuel costs in whatever area you are visiting and make a decision based on this.

7) Finally you must inspect your hire car carefully before driving away. If you notice any damage then bring it to the car hire attendants notice. Chances are they are already aware of it but its pays to be careful.

Tips for cheap car hire

1.As with airlines, the earlier you book the better – so Book Early!

2.Car hire rates work out cheaper if you book the car for a longer time period. This is worth keeping in mind if you are planning a long holiday and are unsure if you can afford a car for the entire time

3.The type of car you book plays a major role in your car hire cost. If you book an economy car then rates can work out quite cheap however there are also bargains to be found in the higher end of the car hire market

4.Another money saving tip is to book your car hire at off peak holiday times

5.If you are arriving at the Airport, It makes sense to pick up your car at that airport. Don’t opt for collecting it in the city as you will incur extra transport charges trying to get there to collect it

6.What kind of trip are you planning? Business or Family? This is an important consideration when deciding what type of car to rent i.e. if you are a family with lots of luggage, don’t rent a two seater ;-)

7.Be careful to drop your car hire back on the allotted day. Even if you arrive first thing the next day you will be charged for another day

8.If possible drop your car hire off at the same location you picked it up to cut costs
